Counseling for Individuals, Families, & Relationships
People do what they do to achieve a measure of emotional safety. As we build our families or work on developing ourselves we encounter problems we cannot handle well. Often these problems stem from solutions or adaptations we devised when we were younger that no longer work. Counseling is getting some help to work on stuff that blocks our personal or family goals.
A counselor or psychotherapist is like a guide. People do not get problems they can handle -- if you can handle the stress or complication or feeling, it does not become a problem! Since everyone has some kind of problem, now and then everyone can utilize the skills of a professionally trained guide to help with the journey of the moment.
People who seek counseling are intelligent and capable. Some problems admit to faster solutions. Other issues were long in development and take longer to sort out. However, in general, there is too much labeling these days -- we are too quick to lay blame elsewhere or to see the bearer of the symptom as the only problem.
Cross Roads Counseling seeks to find the strengths of a family, a couple, or an individual, and to nurture the depth and power of the yearning to be whole. We have experience with marriage counseling, substance abuse treatment, working with teenagers, the dynamics of complicated family systems, psychological evaluations, and healing related to clergy misconduct.
